You may be interested that the exact portion of the texts on which NGS bases the "hero" and Ehrman bases the "best of the disciples" is part that was apparently mistranslated, based on follow-up scholarship. It actually says he's demonic and the worst of them all. Of course that didn't come out until NGS had made their $, and Ehrman has published on the text that was the other way ...
